We support a wide variety of projects and numerous beneficiary groups in three key areas:
- preventive care,
- education and advancement of science,
- local community development.
We attach importance to the promotion of preventive care and early disease detection. We make sure that our campaigns are comprehensible and practical. We seek to promote the growth of local communities by means of numerous social, education, health, cultural, or sports initiatives. We develop cross-sectoral cooperation. We encourage our employees to participate in volunteering projects.
In line with our Sustainable Development Strategy 2022–2025, we have set objectives to help us monitor and respond to community needs. Therefore, we strive to maintain a regular stakeholder dialogue within the communities where we are present. We also want to intensify our cooperation with the communities on local initiatives, contributing to their development by sharing expertise and forging relationships with organisations and institutions.
Medical and pharmaceutical education
Medicine and pharmacology are developing rapidly. Therefore, we make sure to share the most up-to-date treatment expertise with doctors and pharmacists. Our educational programmes and events facilitate continuous learning.
Expert Educational Programme
Polpharma Expert Educational Program (EPE) is an educational initiative for doctors and pharmacists, aimed at delivering the latest advancements in medicine and pharmacy. The program includes workshops and conferences in innovative formats tailored to the needs of physicians from various specialties.
As part of EPE, events are organized across all fields of medicine, and expert lecturers—who also contribute to the program’s content—are invited to lead the sessions.
The program has received awards and enjoys strong interest among medical professionals in Poland.
During the conferences held by us under the Expert Educational Programme top experts disseminate knowledge, taking care to present the practical aspects of the discussed issues.
As part of the programme, we also held the Pharmaceutical Care Congress.
We held and sponsored a total of 266 scientific conferences and workshops attended by 9,788 doctors.
Support for local communities
We perfectly understand the importance of cross-sectoral social innovation, which is why, since 2014, we have been the main partner of the Development Initiatives Fund (Fundusz Inicjowania Rozwoju) and the Development Initiatives Forum (Forum Inicjowania Rozwoju) – two unique sustainability initiatives of the Pomeranian Province carried out by the UP Foundation for Development Initiatives.
The fund provides grants for innovative cross-sectoral partnerships that respond to the challenges faced by local communities in Pomerania.
The Health Zone
“Health Zone” is a nationwide campaign offering free medical check-ups, organized by Polpharma. As part of the initiative, residents of various cities can benefit from complimentary cardiological, endocrinological, ophthalmological, and spirometric examinations. The campaign aims to improve access to medical tests and specialist consultations, especially for individuals over the age of 40, in response to long waiting times for specialist appointments.
The “Health Zone” includes:
- free medical tests: Cardiological, endocrinological, ophthalmological, and spirometric examinations.
- medical consultations: Each patient receives professional advice from a specialist and, if necessary, recommendations for further treatment.
- health education: Talks are held on topics such as heart attacks, diabetes, COPD, and glaucoma.
The campaign is conducted in specially designed tents that ensure comfort and privacy during examinations and consultations. No referral is required to participate.
“Health Zone” has been running by Polpharma since 2012, and over 24,000 patients have already been examined across 117 events.
First Responder
Polpharma is supporting the nationwide initiative First Responder (Pierwszy Ratownik) programme of the Union of Voluntary Fire Brigades of the Republic of Poland. The programme aims to improve the survival rate for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest events from 5% to 40%, saving 14,000 lives a year. This will be done by building a wide network of rescuers in local communities (so-called first responders), systemic training, and ensuring the availability of advanced ICT systems. As part of the cooperation, we provided the union with the Reanimator app, which supports people giving first aid.
Employee volunteering
We are committed to effecting real and meaningful changes in the communities where we operate. In our experience, it is essential to involve our employees who live in the region or locality and understand the needs of local residents, their neighbours. We are building an environment that fosters the social engagement of our employees. When they provide community service, they can rely on us for financial, organisational and expert support.
Since 2013, we have been running the Employee Volunteering Program across all Polpharma Group locations in Poland. The program is organized as a grant competition, providing funding for the 20 most compelling projects submitted by our employees. Projects can be submitted in the following categories: health and disease prevention, quality of life improvement, education and equal opportunities, humanitarian aid, local development, environmental protection, and animal welfare.
By the end of 2024, as part of the Employee Volunteering Program grant competition:
- 237 projects have been implemented
- over 1,750 volunteers have been involved in helping others
- more than 28,000 hours have been dedicated to supporting those in need
- nearly 42,000 beneficiaries have received support
Employees can also take part in the “Letters to Santa” initiative. Each year, around 500 people participate by responding to letters from children in care institutions and preparing personalized Christmas gifts for them.
Social engagement
Polpharma engages with its communities in many ways – through charitable activities, social investments, and commercial initiatives within the communities.
