Responsibility for employees

We support our employees in fully realizing their potential. We offer access to an extensive range of training programs and provide financial assistance for professional courses and language education. We take a comprehensive approach to ensuring the health and safety of our workforce, as well as that of external personnel operating within our facilities.

A group of employees

The personnel policy of Polpharma is based on the adopted values, system of professional competencies and open communication. It guarantees equal treatment of employees regardless of their gender, race, background, religion, sexual preferences or disability.

Objective procedures are in place at each level of human resources management, including internal and external recruitment, training and professional development, and promotion.

We offer an extensive training programme, which is adapted to individual needs and skills. The partnership-based relationships with employees are maintained by open and two-way communication. We ensure employees are informed on an ongoing basis about changes and events in the company through regular meetings with management personnel, as well as numerous internal communication tools, including a company intranet and an internal bulletin entitled “Panaceum”. We conduct surveys of employee engagement on a regular basis, and if necessary, implement any required measures on the basis of dialogue with internal stakeholders.

We provide the employees with the possibility of free trade union association. There are two Trade Unions in Polpharma: Międzyzakładowy Związek Zawodowy “Chemików” (Inter-works Trade Union “Chemists”) and Komisja Międzyzakładowa NSZZ „Solidarność” (Inter-Works Committee of NSZZ “Solidarność”), which are partners in any discussion with the management board in the development of solutions important for employees.

Human rights

At Polpharma, we ensure that all human rights are respected, including those concerning the prohibition of forced labour, fair employment practices, freedom of association, care for the safety, health and well-being of employees, non-discrimination, or the prohibition of child labour in accordance with international conventions such as:

  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
  • the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights: Implementing the United Nations “Protect, Respect and Remedy” Framework;
  • ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy;
  • the International Bill of Human Rights, which includes the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and two UN covenants: International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights;
  • the UN General Assembly’s resolution of 28 July 2022 recognising the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment as a human right.

Standards of remuneration (living wage)

Polpharma pledges that none of its employees is or will be paid below the living wage.

We define a living wage according to the guidelines of the International Labour Organization, i.e. it is a wage at the level necessary to ensure a decent standard of living for workers and their families, taking into account the conditions of the given country and calculated for work performed during normal working hours.

The approach to wage policy is discussed and agreed with the unions every year.

We verify the provision of a living wage with the temporary employment agencies cooperating with Polpharma.

We verify annually the recommended level of living wage in the Wage Indicator Foundation’s global database.

Based on it, for 2025 we have adopted the minimum wage for our operations in Poland as the living wage.

In 2025, none of ZF Polpharma’s employees or employees hired by temporary employment agencies were paid below the living wage.

A safe work environment

We place great importance on maintaining a healthy and safe working environment. We operate an Integrated Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Management System, certified for compliance with international OHS standards under ISO 45001.

We implement a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety Policy and regularly conduct educational initiatives across the company. Employee representatives actively contribute to fostering a safe and supportive workplace through participation in trade unions, social labor inspections, and internal health and safety committees.

We continuously introduce modern processes, installations, and equipment, along with improvements aimed at eliminating occupational risks and enhancing working conditions. We also work to eliminate or reduce the use of hazardous chemicals in our production processes.

We mitigate harmful and dangerous factors by reducing large-scale production and automating manufacturing, storage, and auxiliary operations.

We place particular emphasis on educating external contractors performing tasks on Polpharma premises. We provide safety training and maintain appropriate supervision over the work being carried out.

We diligently pursue our Occupational Safety and Health (OHS) Policy, and we continually raise our employees’ awareness in this regard. Employee representatives actively contribute to building a pleasant work environment by participating in trade union activities, social workplace inspections and on-site OHS committees.

Accident Prevention Program

Since 2012, we have been running the “Stop Accidents” Program, aimed at promoting proactive employee attitudes toward accident prevention, fostering a culture of safety in the workplace, and minimizing the social costs associated with workplace incidents.

The program is open to all employees and encourages their active involvement in shaping safe working conditions. It includes the reporting of near-miss events, hazardous situations, deviations from normal operations, and unsafe behaviors or attitudes. The most engaged employees are recognized with attractive rewards.

More information on how we ensure and promote elevated workplace safety standards can be found in our last Responsibility Report HERE.
