Polpharma was awarded for the effort it has put in promoting compliance with ethical standards. Markus Sieger, the CEO of Polpharma and member of the United Nations Global Compact Poland Programme Committee, received the statuette during the formal gala organised in connection with the United Nations Day celebrations on 15 October. He also presented the “Development Architect 2018” award to the “Dajemy Dzieciom Siłę” Foundation, which was honoured among institutions promoting the protection of and compliance with human rights in Poland.
The United Nations Global Compact is the largest global initiative connecting businesses which promote sustainable development. Since its inauguration in 2000 by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, over 13,500 members from 170 countries have joined the initiative. The aim of the UNGC is to perform activities which would oblige the private sector worldwide to link their business strategies with universal principles based on human rights, standards of work, environment protection and bribery prevention as well as to support the goals pursued by the United Nations.
The Global Compact Network Poland Programme Committee comprises top specialists in their respective fields as well as directors and CEOs of the most involved companies operating in one of the UN Global Compact priority areas. Members of the initiative undertake to observe and promote the 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact and to regularly report their progress in this respect.
One of the most important UNGC initiatives in our country is the “Standard of Ethics in Poland” Programme. During the formal gala, Polpharma and other pioneers of the declaration on adopting the Standard received special statuettes and titles of Advocates for the Standard of Ethics.
Another important element of the gala was the presentation of “Development Architects” awards. The Polpharma CEO together with a well-known race driver, Kajetan Kajetanowicz, presented the award to the “Dajemy Dzieciom Siłę” Foundation.
“We believe that business may induce positive changes, impacting people’s lives and the environment. We wish that our actions will contribute to the implementation of global sustainable development goals.I am glad that Polpharma’s activities have been appreciated and that I could present the Development Architect statuette to the “Dajemy Dzieciom Siłę” Foundation, which constantly strives to improve the situations of children in Poland and to make their childhood happy and safe,” said Markus Sieger.
This year’s United Nations Day gala was also an occasion to celebrate the 70th anniversary of adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As in previous years, the Yearbook 2018/2019 has also been published.
