The goal of the Climate Leadership programme is to build a community of business leaders who, understanding the need of transformation to curb climate change, see it as an opportunity for development. Working with external Programme experts, companies develop and then implement solutions that measurably reduce their impact on the global climate. As UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said during a speech delivered in November 2020 in New York “Nature needs a bailout. Overcoming the pandemic, we can also avert climate cataclysm and restore our planet. This is an epic policy test. But ultimately this is a moral test.”
“As the largest Polish pharmaceutical company, we want to support and inspire people to live a healthy life in a healthy world. As part of our environmental objectives, we are taking measures to manage energy efficiently, use clean and renewable energy sources, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve climate neutrality. We believe that by joining the Climate Leadership programme and making further measurable changes for the sake of climate, we will accelerate our transformation in this area, also setting an example for our partners throughout the entire value chain,” says Markus Sieger, CEO of the Polpharma Group.
The project organizer is the UNEP/GRID-Warsaw Centre, which has carried out the mission of the United Nations Environment Programme in Poland for nearly 30 years.
UNEP/GRID-Warsaw is also the initiator of the SDGs Partnership “Together for the Environment”. For 4 years of activities in the Partnership, companies and organizations work together to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, focusing in particular on their environmental dimension. Polpharma is an active participant in these activities, cooperating e.g. on the targets of Goal 6 “Clean water and sanitation”, Goal 11 “Sustainable cities and communities”, Goal 13 “Climate action” and Goal 15 “Life on land”.
